It is crucial for you to have a plan for your own security when you host an open house. Let another agent or a friend know when and where the open house is and have them expect to hear from you when it is over. Check in often with others when you are at the open house. It only takes a minute to prepare yourself mentally and to get others who care about you to help and it is as simple as paying attention and planning ahead. It is easy to get distracted and to lose track of people when there are several visitors at once at the property. But be aware, be confident enough to be willing even to offend a guest in order to keep yourself and them safe by interrupting them or taking just a second to pause and check things out.
Follow your gut, but even more importantly, have a plan. And if you don’t, please contact me for pointers and guidance for being prepared.
